Internet users were stunned after noticing a piece of paper Donald Trump was holding while checking out Elon Musk’s Teslas at the White House.
On Tuesday (March 11), a selection of Tesla vehicles, including electric cars and a Cybertruck, were displayed at the White House as Trump voiced his support for Musk’s company, calling it Musk’s “baby.”
Trump accused the “Radical Left” of trying to harm Musk by boycotting Tesla, which he claimed contributed to the company’s declining stock value. In response, he announced his decision to buy a “brand new Tesla” to show confidence in Musk’s business.
In videos from the event, Trump told reporters he wanted to purchase a Tesla because it was a “great product.” He admired a red Tesla Model S, calling it “beautiful,” and was surprised by its advanced technology, remarking: “Everything’s computer!”
However, viewers noticed that Trump wasn’t just relying on his impressions—he had a piece of paper with detailed notes about Tesla pricing. A photographer captured an image of the document, which listed the costs of different Tesla models along with a promotional-style message. The note mentioned prices such as:
Model X: $112,490 (silver)
Cybertruck: $114,000 (gray)
Model S: $108,990 (blue)
Model Y: $59,990 (red)
Additionally, the note suggested that Teslas could be bought for as low as “$299/month or $35k,” with all models featuring self-driving capabilities, though activation required an extra fee.
The revelation of Trump’s detailed pricing sheet shocked many online users. One Reddit commenter compared the image to those found in history books “for all the wrong reasons,” while another jokingly called Trump a “literal car salesman.” Some criticized him for seemingly using an official White House event to promote a billionaire friend’s business, with one user even suggesting impeachment over the matter.
Trump stated he intended to “pay full price” for his Tesla, despite his previous skepticism about electric vehicles. In 2023, he told crowds in Iowa that EVs “don’t go far” and “cost a fortune,” and at another event, he sarcastically remarked that electric cars were beneficial “if you have a towing company.”
