President Donald Trump Returned to Hospital for More Tests 3 Months After Being Diagnosed — Details

A mysterious hospital visit, a concerning summer diagnosis, and a fresh set of test results have reignited questions surrounding President Donald Trump’s health.

President Donald Trump, 79, was back at Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday, October 10, 2025, for a scheduled hospital visit, just three months after doctors discovered a vascular condition that could pose long-term concerns for the aging leader.

The trip, which coincided with planned remarks to U.S. troops, unfolded despite earlier claims that Trump had already wrapped up his annual physical earlier this year.

Hours later, White House physician Capt. Sean Barbabella issued a carefully worded statement outlining the president’s latest exam. He said the appointment was part of Trump’s “ongoing health maintenance plan” and included laboratory testingadvanced imaging, and a battery of preventive assessments.

White House Doubles Down: Trump in ‘Exceptional Health’

President Donald J. Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance,” Barbabella wrote in the summary distributed to People. He added that Trump “continues to maintain a demanding daily schedule without restriction.”

Yet despite that glowing assessment, Barbabella offered no details on which imaging tests were performed or what those preventive screenings actually revealed.

What he did confirm, though, was that Trump received his updated influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations, and his lab results were reportedly “exceptional.”

According to the statement, Trump’s cardiac age is 14 years younger than his actual age, based on metrics from the Heart Foundation.

Swelling in Legs Led to July Diagnosis

The latest testing comes after Trump’s July diagnosis with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that affects blood flow in the legs and is especially common in older adults. The issue first came to light after Trump experienced mild swelling in his lower legs, which persisted for several weeks.

Following his complaints, President Trump underwent a comprehensive evaluation with the White House Medical Unit, which included vascular imaging and an echocardiogram to rule out more serious complications.

In his July letter, Barbabella wrote, “Bilateral lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasounds were performed and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.”

He noted that there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosisarterial diseaseheart failurekidney impairment, or systemic illness. At the time, Trump was reportedly experiencing “no discomfort.”

Medical Experts Caution: Benign Doesn’t Mean Safe

While the White House attempted to downplay the diagnosis, doctors consulted by CNN said it warrants attention.

“This is a pretty normal part of aging, and especially for someone in the overweight to obese category, which is where the president has always been,” said Dr. Jeremy Faust, assistant professor at Harvard Medical School.

He added, “But the bigger concern … is that symptoms like this do need to be evaluated for more serious conditions, and that is what happened.”

Dr. Bernard Ashby, a cardiologist, took it a step further. “Even though he’s diagnosed with a benign condition, venous insufficiency, by itself doesn’t necessarily mean it’s benign,” he stated. “The question is, what’s causing the venous insufficiency?”

Dr. Chris Pernell also weighed in, warning that the condition, while not fatal, can become debilitating if ignored. Risk factors include ageobesityinactivity, and long stretches of sitting or standing — all common in the president’s demanding schedule.

Bruising on Hand Tied to Handshakes and Aspirin

Also addressed in the July update was the bruising spotted on the back of Trump’s hand — a detail that had fueled speculation across social media. According to Barbabella, it was nothing serious.

This is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen,” the physician noted in his statement.

Oldest President Ever Faces Ongoing Health Scrutiny

Although Trump completed his annual physical in April, where Barbabella deemed him “fully fit” to serve, the White House has continued issuing health bulletins in response to public demand.

At 79, Trump remains the oldest person ever elected to the presidency, and since the Nixon era, presidential physicals have drawn intense media interest.

Back in April, Barbabella declared, “President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function.”
